Centre for Human Rights

The Centre for Human Rights is an academic department within the Faculty of Law, University of Pretoria, and has been offering formal education programmes for more than 30 years. The Centre is expanding its academic offering to a broader community of students seeking to expand their knowledge of human rights, particularly in the African context. Through the free MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) on this platform, the Centre is increasing its reach from the traditional classroom to the virtual teaching space.

The Centre, through its Advanced Human Rights Courses (AHRC) programme, offers 12 contact courses per year in Pretoria, South Africa. This platform will become an ancillary to the courses, enabling thousands of distance learning students to participate in and engage with a range of human rights topics. Our courses are taught by academics and experts drawn from all regions in Africa and beyond, offering an inclusive perspective on the situation of human rights on the African continent, and the world.
